LaCosta Tucker aka "Momma"

LaCosta Tucker was a Country Music sensation in the 1970s, scoring fourteen chart hits, touring with the biggest stars in Country Music, and appearing on numerous TV shows such as "Dolly", "Nashville Now", "The Jim Nabors Show", "Pop Goes the Country", and "Hee Haw" as a musical guest. The legendary Dick Clark even declared his love for her on American Bandstand in an interview with her little sister.

Born in Seminole, Texas, LaCosta Tucker moved around frequently, as her father Beau Tucker was a construction worker., water well driller and overall "jack of all trades". Tucker had two siblings. Beau felt LaCosta had the talent to be a star, and Tucker won her first talent contest at age four. In between entering beauty pageants and talent shows, she performed in a band called the Country Westerners. She graduated from Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona with an AA degree and and became Miss Country Music Phoenix. She married her college sweetheart, Darrell Sorensen, in 1971 and moved to Henderson, NV.

After marrying, LaCosta decided to pursue her dream to become a recording artist. After a chance meeting with Al Gallico (one of the world's most successful music publishers) in 1974, she signed a recording contract with Capitol records. She soon had a hit record with "I Wanta Get To You," which landed at number 25 on the country charts, followed by "Get on My Love Train" at number 3, and "He Took Me for a Ride" at number 10. She charted ten more singles for Capitol and recorded five albums for the label. In 1975 and 1976, she received nominations from the Academy of Country Music for "Most Promising Female Vocalist". In 1982 she moved to Elektra Records and she charted with "Love Take It Easy On Me," under her full name of LaCosta Tucker.

LaCosta's baking is world class and for a time, she made gourmet candy in custom designed guitar shaped packaging. LaCosta's two top ten singles are available for streaming on all major platforms. Her five albums can be found for sale on Ebay along with a 2000 release, Sisters: An Anthology, which includes LaCosta's biggest hits. YouTube is also a great source for videos and recordings of LaCosta.

Today, LaCosta splits her time between Nashville and Las Vegas. She still can belt out a country banger, but her main role is "Momma" to her daughter Cali and her son Zach. She is also the proud grandmother of a beautiful granddaughter, Adelin. Recently LaCosta has been seen joining Cali onstage to reprise her #3 hit "Get On My Love Train"! They have plans to record together soon and maybe even tour in the future!
